Tom Shroba is Vice President of Operations for New Jersey American Water, the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater to approximately 2.8 million people. In this role since 2017, he oversees all New Jersey American Water operations including Water and Wastewater Treatment, Transmission and Distribution, Field Services, SCADA, Water Quality and Environmental Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Customer Advocacy and Metering. He also provides strategic input into statewide growth and development opportunities and continue to support the company’s commitment to safety for its employees and customers.
With 33 years of experience at American Water, Shroba joined the company as an engineering technician and has served in various operations and engineering leadership roles including Distribution supervisor, Transmission and Distribution superintendent, Network Operations superintendent and Field Operations manager. Prior to his current role, he served as senior director of Operations for the company’s North region, in which he was responsible for maintaining water operating systems serving 32 municipalities and managing a staff of 100 union and non-union employees.
Shroba earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J. He holds a Professional Engineer certification and T-2 and W-2 licenses from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. Beyond his career, Shroba is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys spending time with his wife and four children in Middletown, NJ. He currently serves on the board of advisors for the Eastern Monmouth County Chamber of Commerce.
