Background

Richard W. Henning delivers a unique combination of corporate and government experience with extensive expertise in marketing, public relations, corporate communications, government affairs and community relations. He currently serves as President and CEO of the New Jersey Utilities Association. In this position he is responsible for setting public policy and strategic planning for the utilities industry in New Jersey.

Rich joined NJUA in January 2023, after working for 34 years at Veolia, Suez, United Water and Hackensack Water. Rich served in progressively responsible executive positions. During his tenure, he assisted in transforming the company from a regional utility into a leading national environmental services company.

Over the last decade, Henning has directed communications programs to consumers, stockholders, the media and the public. Henning has also been responsible for multiple national marketing campaigns that have positioned SUEZ as the leader in the water and wastewater industry. Over the years Henning has specialized in managing crisis communications and launching water conservation programs to the public.

Before joining SUEZ, Henning had a distinguished 10-year career in the electronics industry. He held key senior management positions with General Electric, RCA Corporation and Panasonic. He was also a sportswriter for The Record.

Henning serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors for Hackensack Meridian Health Network's Pascack Valley Medical Center and was formerly Chair for the health network's 17 Hospitals throughout the State of New Jersey. He was also formerly Chairman of the Hackensack University Medical Center, a subsidiary of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network. He is a Board Member for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and is the former chairman for the Heroes and Cool Kids Foundation.

Henning holds a degree in communications from Rutgers University, where he has also taught media relations and communications as an adjunct professor.
