Getting to know NJUA - Marian Abdou
Please tell us about yourself.
"I was born in Egypt and immigrated to the US when I was 7. I grew up in Middlesex County and attended Rutgers University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. My husband and I now reside in Somerset County with our children."
How did you get into this field?
"After working as a finance attorney in New York City at several law firms, I joined Hess Corporation as an in-house corporate attorney, later joining Direct Energy and finally NRG Energy, where I supported the asset management, business development and energy services groups. So for me, it was a gradual transition into the energy sector, culminating in my current role on the Board."
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
"My four incredible children."
What are some of the biggest challenges facing the utilities industry this year?
"One of the most significant challenges facing our industry is the balance of integrating clean energy to address climate change while also keeping rates affordable and energy reliable."
How do you relax?
"My family and I enjoy traveling when we have the opportunity."
