MAYS LANDING - Atlantic City Electric, in partnership with nonprofit SHARES, has introduced the Atlantic City Electric Customer Relief Fund, targeting limited and moderate-income customers who may be impacted by anticipated utility bill increases in the coming months.

The initiative - made possible by a one-time $4 million donation from Exelon, Atlantic City Electric’s parent company -will be administered by SHARES, a nonprofit with an established record of aiding South Jersey families.

The Customer Relief Fund aims to ease the burden of higher energy bills, which are expected due to increased supply costs and rising demand. The program is accessible beginning in early July to active Atlantic City Electric customers who meet income requirements for federal and state energy assistance programs and have accumulated at least $250 in arrearages over the previous 60 days. Moderate-income customers who meet specific eligibility criteria will also be considered.

Approved applicants will see grant funds credited directly to their Atlantic City Electric accounts, providing immediate relief as summer energy usage peaks.

“Atlantic City Electric has deep community roots, and we're committed to standing by our customers and helping them stay connected to the essential energy service we provide," Tyler Anthony, President and CEO of Pepco Holdings, Atlantic City Electric’s parent company said. "The Customer Relief Fund offers immediate assistance with higher energy bills as we continue to work on long-term solutions with state and local officials.”

“No one in South Jersey should have to choose between dignity and basic necessities like keeping the lights on," Cheryl Stowell, CEO of SHARES, added. "SHARES is proud to continue our work with Atlantic City Electric to launch this Customer Relief Fund, providing vital financial support to our communities who are struggling with higher energy costs.”

Alongside the newly established relief fund, Atlantic City Electric is implementing additional support measures for customers during the summer, including:

  • Suspending service disconnections for nonpayment from July through September for eligible customers.

  • Waiving reconnection fees for customers restoring service through September.

  • Extending repayment terms for residential bills, allowing up to 24 months.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has also approved a $30 deferred credit on July and August bills for customers, which will be recouped without interest over six months starting in September—helping moderate spikes caused by seasonal usage.
