WALL - New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), the principal subsidiary of New Jersey Resources recently announced the installation of Carbon Reform’s Carbon Reduction System to help advance its building decarbonization efforts. This new system at the NJNG Lakewood operations center is the first in New Jersey.
Carbon Reform’s Carbon Reduction System is a first-of-a-kind retrofit solution that utilizes permanent carbon capture to cut building emissions. The System’s broad capabilities can deliver other key benefits to commercial properties including reduced energy costs and increased overall efficiency.
“NJNG is committed to identifying innovative technologies that provide practical, cost-effective solutions to emissions reduction for our customers,” said Patrick Migliaccio, senior vice president and COO of New Jersey Natural Gas. “The installation of Carbon Reform’s system at NJNG helps showcase the opportunity for this emerging technology and provides real-world insight on how these units perform. This milestone is another example of NJNG’s leadership in emissions reduction and sustainability.”
The system’s latest Carbon Capsule® model introduces a modular design with custom color and sizing options to fit specific space requirements. As the company's lowest energy model yet, the Carbon Capsule® V3 provides buildings with an efficient and adaptable solution to reduce emissions that seamlessly integrates with existing HVAC systems.
"Our work with New Jersey Natural Gas demonstrates how utilities can play a crucial role in bringing sustainable technologies directly to communities,” said Jo Norris, CEO and co-founder of Carbon Reform. “Together, we're showing that carbon-reduction technology can deliver other efficiencies, supporting more cost-effective building operations in a pragmatic way. We're excited to work with NJNG to demonstrate these benefits to New Jersey businesses."
"The commercial building sector represents a significant opportunity for practical decarbonization solutions,” said Nick Martin, COO and co-founder of Carbon Reform. “Our work with utilities like New Jersey Natural Gas demonstrates how building operators can achieve meaningful emissions reductions while maintaining focus on their bottom line. This deployment will showcase how the broad capabilities of our technology, pairing carbon capture with air purification functionality, integrate seamlessly with existing building systems to improve efficiency and reduce energy costs with measurable results.”
NJNG continues to pursue carbon-capture projects as part of NJR’s broader decarbonization goals and commitment to building a cleaner energy future driven by sustainability and reliability. Highlights of this progress include:
Deployed over $71.3 million in SAVEGREEN® energy-efficiency programs to help customers reduce emissions.
NJNG became the first utility in the state to install and operate distributed carbon-capture technology.
NJR completed its first capped landfill community solar facility in New Jersey.
NJR was named one of America’s Most Responsible Companies for 2024 by Newsweek – earning the recognition for the fifth consecutive year.
NJR’s employees and retirees provided over 4,200 hours of volunteer service and its charitable foundations provided over $2.1 million in direct funding to local nonprofits.
