Jay Kooper, Middlesex Water Company
Jay Kooper is the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Middlesex Water Company (NASDAQ: MSEX), a 125-year old investor-owned water and wastewater utility company with regulated and unregulated operations primarily in New Jersey and Delaware. Over the entire span of his more than 20-year career, Mr. Kooper has represented clients across every public utilities sector – water, wastewater, electric, gas, telephone and cable.
Mr. Kooper is a member of the National Association of Water Companies’ (NAWC) Board of Directors, currently serves as Chair of NAWC’s New Jersey Chapter and is a Past Chair of NAWC’s Regulatory and Legislative Committee. Mr. Kooper is also a Past Chair and serves on the Board of Consultors of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Public Utility Law Section. Mr. Kooper also serves on selected non-profit Boards in New Jersey.
Mr. Kooper is a winner of the 2019 NJBIZ General Counsel of the Year Award in the Public Company category and was recognized in 2016 as a finalist for the NJBIZ General Counsel of the Year Award and the New York Stock Exchange’s Distinguished General Counsel Award. In 2020, Middlesex Water Company’s Legal Department, under Mr. Kooper’s leadership, received the New Jersey Law Journal’s Professional Excellence Award in the In-House Impact Category.
Mr. Kooper received his Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from Emory University.
