CAMDEN — New Jersey American Water announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire Gordon’s Corner Water Company, a privately owned utility serving about 15,000 customers in parts of Colts Neck, Manalapan and Marlboro townships.
Located northwest of New Jersey American Water’s Monmouth System, Gordon’s Corner will be gradually integrated into the company’s existing network to enhance service reliability and water supply redundancy in the region, which faces increased demand during peak tourism and irrigation months.
“This transaction represents the right succession plan for Gordon’s Corner Water Company, ensuring that our customers remain at the forefront of every decision,” said David Ern, president of Gordon’s Corner Water Company. “By selling to New Jersey American Water, we are prioritizing the long-term quality and reliability of water service for generations to come.”
Under the agreement, approximately 20 Gordon’s Corner employees will be offered positions with New Jersey American Water. Planned integration projects include connecting systems across Monmouth County to support long-term stability in the area’s water supply.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to serve customers in parts of Colts Neck, Manalapan and Marlboro, and we appreciate that the leadership at Gordon’s Corner Water Company is entrusting us with this privilege,” said New Jersey American Water President Mark McDonough. “This acquisition is primarily about ensuring continuity of service for Gordon’s Corner customers as their company transitions out of ownership. Integrating Gordon’s Corner into our operations will help support long-term stability in the region’s overall stressed water supply.”
The transaction, which requires approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, is expected to close by mid-2026. Upon completion, Gordon’s Corner shareholders will receive American Water (NYSE: AWK) common stock in exchange for their shares through a merger process.
New Jersey American Water plans to maintain current Gordon’s Corner rates at closing. Any future rate changes will be subject to NJBPU review and approval. The company also offers customer assistance through its H2O Help to Others Program for those who qualify.
