HAWORTH — Veolia has completed its acquisition of the Manalapan Township Water System, expanding the company’s drinking water and wastewater services footprint in New Jersey.
The newly acquired system serves about 3,500 homes and businesses in Manalapan. Customers can expect improved operational efficiency, enhanced water quality monitoring and significant infrastructure investments to strengthen system reliability. Planned upgrades include replacing aging water mains and valves, restoring water storage tanks and building a new, state-of-the-art treatment facility featuring advanced technologies.
“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing exceptional water services and infrastructure improvements in the region,” said Alan Weland, regional president of Veolia Water New Jersey. “We are thrilled to officially welcome the Manalapan community into Veolia’s operations and look forward to implementing critical upgrades that will ensure reliable, high-quality service.”
The transaction follows a November 2024 public referendum in which 67% of Manalapan voters approved the sale of the system to Veolia. The purchase was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities on Sept. 10.
Township officials joined Veolia representatives for a ceremony at the Manalapan Township Municipal Complex to mark the acquisition.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for our water infrastructure,” said Manalapan Mayor Eric Nelson. “Veolia’s proven track record and commitment to excellence gives us confidence that our residents will benefit from enhanced service reliability and water quality improvements for years to come.”
Manalapan is Veolia’s sixth system acquisition in New Jersey since 2018. The company said its continued growth reflects its GreenUp strategic program to strengthen environmental infrastructure and provide long-term sustainability solutions for local communities.
Veolia has begun outreach to new customers, who will receive welcome packets with information about services and upcoming improvements. Details are also available online at mywater.veolia.us/manalapan
