NEWARK - Nearly half a million New Jersey residents and businesses are reporting significant savings and environmental benefits through Public Service Electric & Gas Company’s (PSE&G) expanding energy efficiency programs, according to the latest Clean Energy Future-Energy Efficiency (CEF-EE) report released by the company.

As of March 2025, about 465,000 PSE&G customers have participated in energy efficiency initiatives, collectively saving more than $720 million on their annual utility bills. These savings are attributed to a broad range of efforts, from home energy assessments and rebates for energy-efficient appliances and HVAC systems, to smart products purchased through the PSE&G Marketplace. Since the inception of these programs, customers have received roughly $740 million in rebates, available both as instant discounts and post-purchase reimbursements, easing the cost of energy-saving upgrades.

“Affordability and energy efficiency go hand-in-hand, and our programs are designed to make it easier for customers to reduce their energy use and manage their monthly bills,” said Lauren Thomas, vice president Clean Energy Solutions-Customer Solutions at PSE&G. “As customers continue to take advantage of our energy efficiency programs, they’re seeing the benefits—lower energy costs, greater comfort, and more affordable ways to save energy at home.”

Participation highlights include over 95,000 home energy assessments, 140,000 rebates for high-efficiency appliances, more than 24,000 appliances recycled, and approximately 340,000 smart thermostats as well as 100,000 power strips sold. Business customers are also seeing impressive results, with more than 18,500 businesses completing nearly 28,000 projects to boost operational efficiency and manage expenses. The Small Business Direct Install program alone has helped more than 1,500 small businesses save an estimated $19 million annually on energy costs by lowering the upfront expense of energy-saving upgrades.

Altogether, PSE&G projects that its residential and business customers are on track to conserve about 2.8 million megawatt-hours of electricity and over 75 million therms of natural gas per year—energy savings equivalent to powering over 406,000 homes and avoiding about 2.1 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

The company’s efforts extend to workforce development, with over 4,100 individuals placed in clean energy jobs through the PSE&G Clean Energy Jobs Program, supporting the state’s growing need for skilled workers in this sector. PSE&G’s programs have also received 75 industry awards recognizing their excellence in program delivery, marketing, and workforce development.

Despite these achievements, PSE&G notes that addressing the growing imbalance between electricity supply and demand across New Jersey remains critical for maintaining affordability. With demand forecast to rise while supply lags, the utility emphasizes the need for continued investments not only in energy efficiency but also in new generation and expanded transmission to ensure reliable, cost-effective service in the years ahead
